Eventually, as the game expands I plan on a whole load of customisable stuff, but it will be for much more basic level starting characters rather than the named personalities.

Re: Infamy game development – part 1

Will the rules allow to create your own character to play the board game?

Re: Infamy game development – part 1

And now that I spotted the other comments to be approved!

Silas Cordell - very much hoping it will play awesome too. There will be rules going online for people to test out as soon as I'm ready. It won't be for a while just yet, but I'll keep you all posted.

Phildeb - Two sided tiles, so hopefully there will be a huge amount of layout possibilities. I even have some funky mechanics in place for if you draw a tile that is on the reverse of one already in play.
Plantman30 - I've been a big fan of their models since they first came to my attention, but I'll be trying to do something a wee bit more refined for my game.

Thanks for all of your thoughts. :)

Cheers,
James

Re: Infamy game development – part 1

Thanks for your thoughts. I can't think of a board game that doesn't have roleplaying in it to some degree, but I think I see what you are getting at. I'm not trying to mix two types of players, I'm making something that will appeal to as many as possible. If you just want to have a simple explore across the city and a few fights you can, but there is the scope for a lot more in that system. Likewise, you don't have to bring the skirmish elements into it at all, but you can if you so desire. :)

The games will be very dynamic. I'm extremely conscious of potential problems with any sort of leveling/experience/overpowered skills and weapons etc. and have sorted out various ways to handle them.

It's also well worth pointing out that Infamy's much more than good becoming bad and vice versa. The lines between good and bad are extremely blurred and it'll be down to you to drive that to some extent. I think you're getting a bit carried away with the Queen Victoria stuff though (not necessarily in a bad way mind you!) :D

I'll be giving lots more information out in regular updates and I'll start to focus on elements of the game in more detail as I do. Don't worry, you'll get a better picture of the workings of the game soon.

Cheers,
James

Re: Infamy game development – part 1

This sounds like a neat idea. Check out http://www.smartmaxstore.com/ they have a board game called the 13th hour you can get free rules on line. There's is a skirmish game but on a small board.

Re: Infamy game development – part 1

crossing boardgame mechanics with roleplaying could be a negative - trying to mix 2 types of players - might work - but it really depends on the target audience... questions will the game(s) be dynamic to handle back and fourth before the game types. having fixed cards in a boardgame might not be able to handle if a character has grown skirmish environment - XP will upgrade your character - will it work after a 10s of games and be back and forth compatible.. ZOMBIES for example is a boardgame (tile based yes) but can easily be transferred into other systems due to ease of what a zombie can do All Flesh Must Be Eaten RPG, can cope with it. but once you started AFMBE and you gain XP for your character you cant go back to ZOMBIES... well you can but for the boardgame - not crossing over with your survivor character... Steampunk Alternative 1890s has huge potential - where what we consider good guys actually being bad - now that is a twist - Moriaty as a good guy - Queen Victoria as a secret/hidden cyberbot ruling the waves with vengence but under the guise of quent English rule.. now thats got world history as a true new slant of a twist.... -- give us something more James - cant wait too what you have in mind...

Re: Infamy game development – part 1

some potential here....

Re: Infamy game development – part 1

Wow like it :o) is the board game a poster or tiles?

Re: Infamy game development – part 1

Sounds awesome, I'll be keeping an eye out for playtest requests :)

Re: Sherlock Holmes sculpt

I am just waiting to receive the first batch of casts to ensure they are of the exceptional quality I expect, then he will be up for pre-order.

Why no Deerstalker? The roots of his look lay in the literature, not the film and TV adaptations. In the books the Deerstalker really isn't a feature, so it isn't on the model either.

Re: Sherlock Holmes sculpt

Lovely model but why no Deerstalker?

Re: Sherlock Holmes sculpt

I am a thoroughly impatient fellow, dear sir! Just ordered Henrietta, and looking forward to picking up this one when it comes out. Keep up the good work, hope that there is far more to come. Also been thinking about a game for these minis over the last few days, really like the ideas you have put forth in the "About" section and how it seems like this will really tie the game play into the fluff of the characters' back stories. Really looking forward to seeing how this all grows, and want to throw my support / offer any assistance with play testing, development, etc...

Re: Sherlock Holmes sculpt

Glad people like the model.
